DSS Foundations

Researchers: Emeritus Professor David Arnott, Professor Graham Pervan.

Research Assistant: Gemma Dodson, Sindy Madrid.

About the Project

There are two general themes to the project. The first is to critically investigate the intellectual foundations of the decision support systems field. The research method involves the content analysis of DSS research papers in major journals since 1990. The first phase of the project has illuminated both problems and opportunities for DSS research. In addition to the general state of DSS research we have also investigated DSS research funding and the sub-fields of group support systems and data warehousing/business intelligence. More recently, the project has investigated the nature of DSS design science research. The second general theme involves the use of the results of the critical content analysis to develop general design theories for DSS.
